May 2021 - Standing in Solidarity with our AAPI Community

Updated: May 23, 2021

by Marsha Snulligan Haney

We, at Urban Missiology LLC, stand in solidarty with our Asian American and Pacific Islanders Community. Since covid-19 there has been a wave of anti-Asian violence. Xenophobia, racism, and gender violence intersected in the March 2021 series of shootings in three Atlanta spas that resulted in the killing of eight people, six of whom were Asian women. While the focus on “Stop the Asian Hate” rallies and the hashtag “Stop Asian Hatred” are important, I want to encourage us to explore two resources that invite us to a deeper understanding.

See the two Blogs posted after this one::

  • The first is to reflect on race equity and ways we can aid the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders communities from the organization, RE-CENTER, Race & Equity in Education

  • The second is to consider Asian American identities with Professor Daniel D. Lee (Fuller Theological Seminary)
