Consumers are being asked to participate in another economic blackout this week by grassroots group The People's Union USA.
This boycott, titled "Economic Blackout 2.0," comes after several others in recent months, including a single-day blackout on Feb. 28 and DEI-related ones targeting large retailers like Target, Walmart and Amazon.
"No shopping, no spending, no fueling the corporate machine that has been bleeding us dry," the group's leader John Schwarz said in an Instagram video posted to his page @theonecalledjai on Thursday. "Tonight, when the clock hits midnight, hold the line, stand in truth and let them feel the silence of our wallets."
Here's what New Yorkers should know about the economic blackout.
How long will the 'Economic Blackout 2.0' last?

The People's Union USA is calling for consumers to not spend any money at big box stores from Friday, April 18 through Sunday, April 20. Schwarz specifically lists Walmart, Amazon, CVS and Starbucks as companies to avoid in an April 16 Instagram video.
What if you have last-minute Easter shopping to do?
Schwarz says to find a small local independently-owned business "if you absolutely have to spend money," in a April 16 Instagram video.
Did the last economic blackout work? What to know about Feb. 28 blackout
While difficult to gauge, data from several firms suggested the Feb. 28 blackout had "some potential impact" on sales for large retailers including Target, Walmart and Amazon, according to a USA TODAY report.
