Ms. Phyllis L. Wilson

Phyllis Wilson retired from the Houston Independent School District as a Special Education Program Specialist where she provided administrative support to campus principals,  teachers, and parents of students with disabilities.

 

She received her BA in elementary education from the University of Missouri Kansas City and her MA in Educational Supervision and Administration from Texas Southern University.   Before becoming an administrator, Phyllis was a teacher of 3-5-year-olds in the Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) where she taught students identified as having intellectual delays, autism, visual impairments, speech impairments, and other health impairments. While teaching, her love for helping children led her to become a certified therapeutic foster parent  where she has impacted the lives of more than 50 children.

 

Since retirement, Phyllis has worked with the ‘Making It Better‘ organization providing reading intervention and literacy skills to struggling readers in kindergarten and first grade. She is currently a member of Delta Sigma Theta Organization and Duryea Parent Teacher Organization. Phyllis’s leisure activities include reading, theater, chess, traveling, volunteering, and being a grandmother.
